Challenges of SOA Testing

Posted by admin on August 29, 2008 in Software Tips + More

Why is SOA testing such a different beast than previous forms of browser, client/server and mainframe testing? Many of the benefits of SOA become challenges to testing an SOA application.

1. SOA is distributed by definition

Services are based on heterogeneous technologies. No longer can we expect to test an application that was developed by a unified group, as a single project, sitting on a single application server and delivered through a standardized browser interface. The ability to string together multiple types of components to form a business workflow allows for unconstrained thinking from an architect’s perspective, and paranoia from a tester’s perspective.

In SOA, application logic is in the middle tier, operating within any number of technologies, residing outside the department, or even outside the company

Think of today’s service components as “headless” applications (most with no user interface) that may both rely on other services, or be consumed by other services to make up any number of business workflows within an SOA. You can rigorously test many of these components as they are developed in isolation, but what happens when they interact at deployment time? It becomes much harder to predictably find the source of a problem when you cannot get direct insight into why two or more disparate technologies do not create a cohesive application.

The post-SOA world offers a vast array of options for how you assemble or consume business workflows across multiple technologies, both inside and outside your core team. In an SOA, more points of connection = an exponential increase in possible failure points.

2. Need to ensure high service levels and excellent exception management

Quality has become a governor on the enterprise’s success in delivering SOA applications. Ensuring quality in a singularly developed application was difficult enough to create an entire discipline around QA. With an SOA, application “stress points” can be anywhere, and will change as individual services are added to the workflow or changed.

There is a quality chasm between Unit and Acceptance Testing. Finding the root causes of problems across the middle tiers of SOA applications is difficult. Testing a front end user interface becomes irrelevant when it provides no insight into what is actually happening on the back end. And expecting developers to find missed requirements by conducting more unit testing at the code level doesn’t get the team there either - it may find some bugs in the component-level code, but it won’t demonstrate why a business requirement isn’t being met.

Services “wrappers,” for instance SOAP/WSDL around an existing RMI object, promise better interoperability by presenting a common set of controls, allowing legacy systems and custom components to be pulled together as steps in an SOA workflow. However, these wrappers may not map every aspect of the original component, making them very opaque to testing. If we are automating unit testing (”white box” testing) and acceptance/system testing (”black box” testing) as above, we are missing the area where most potential errors occur: the unpredictable interaction space between components.

3. Prioritizing new design vs. component reuse efforts

Companies don’t implement an SOA strategy to try out the latest technology. They do it to attain new business capabilities. Complexity is driven into software by the natural process of competition, which forces the evolution of new business rules and logic into business systems. According to the 2005 Aberdeen report, “It’s no surprise that the top factor for implementing SOA, which 50% of survey respondents cited, is development of new capabilities.”

Timeline and budget both constrain quality, creating serious limits to the scope of functionality that can be tested using conventional means. In addition, the business must prioritize functionality as the proposed scope expands, so the project may not fall together in the expected order.

No SOA is a “flip the switch” single technology change

In Selecting an SOA approach there are components that are simply not worth the money and effort to bring into the SOA world - for instance a data feed that supplies a relatively unchanging piece of information to the business workflow. Whether the answer on some lower priority technologies is “if it’s not broke, don’t fix it” or “it’s just not worth changing,” you will likely find yourself supporting and testing some relics in any SOA.

We know that to test SOA, you need to go far beyond merely testing a user interface or browser screen. Web services (WSDL/SOAP) are an important component for many SOAs, but if you’re only testing web services, you are not likely testing the entire technology stack that makes up the application. What transactions are happening at the messaging (JMS) layer? Is the right entry being reflected in the database? In fact, many perfectly valid SOA applications house business logic entirely outside of web services - for instance a Swing UI talking to EJBs connected with messaging applications.

Are you ready to test? SOA offers great implementation advantages, but to ensure quality, you must deal with:

How can you consistently test, when you are trying to hit a moving target with fragile manual tests? The only way to overcome SOA project uncertainty is through highly reusable test automation that can talk to every middle-tier layer - whether your team has built it according to your overall strategy or not.

Relaxation - The Key to Healthy Life

Posted by admin on August 27, 2008 in Biz

Physical exercise complemented by a healthy diet may still leave you bereft of a truly fit body if you dont relax enough. Relaxation releases ‘feel good’ hormones in our body. They help us reduce free radical effect, which means it slows down the ageing process, reducing the PMS syndrome, speeds up recovery of post-operative healing, increases our lung power… the list is endless.

Result shows that just 15 minutes of daily relaxation can aid in the complete avoidance of blood pressure tablets. No amount of exercising and dieting alone can ensure that. Diet and exercise reduce stress levels, but they cannot wholly account for our emotional thought patterns. And thse negative emotions that are mainly accountable for many psychosomatic diseases.

Evidently, pumping iron till your arms ache and dieting diligently will be futile minus relaxation. Relaxation is a must in our daily life. It alone can strengthen our immune system. Right from gardening to playing chess to practising simple mental exercises, anything can be relaxing. The choice and onus both lie with the person.

Research studies have documented positive changes in the blood flow, neurochemistry as well as neurophysiology of the brain when one is relaxed. The blood flow to the brain is increased to those regions of the brain that are associated with feelings of being calm. So, to ensure the complete health quotient, one needs relaxation as much as one needs physical exercise and a proper diet.

TOP TEN RELAXATION TIPS

1. Do what you love daily, like listening to your favorite music.

2. Devote time to a hobby.

3. Look at some old photographs of an occasion that was full of fun.

4. Be with nature any time of the day.

5. Establish contact with old friends.

6. In the afternoon, take a 20-minute nap.

7. Sit on a chair with your feet touching the floor and your back upright. Focus on anything or any sound for three minutes.

8. Once back from office, as you step into your home, just sit for 10-15 minutes doing nothing. You may switch on the television or listen to some music if you so prefer.

9. Breathe deeply while listening to your favorite music.

10. Press under the big toe and the arch of your foot.

Get a new home with easy mortgage, 114926 euro in a week

Posted by admin on August 23, 2008 in Credit Repair, Finance News, School of Loans

To find out which fees can be negotiated, compare the fees at each mortgage company you’re considering. Brokers work with many mortgage bankers and, as a result, can sometimes find slightly more competitive rates 11 percent perhaps lower but dealing directly with a mortgage banker can move a loan along more quickly. Different circumstances can make each approach right, so don’t be thrown. But others will claim low rates to bring in customers or tell you that the rates 9 percent offered by competitors will change.

Different lenders charge different fees. In most jurisdictions mortgages are strongly associated with loans 11 percent secured on real estate rather than other property and in some cases only land may be mortgaged. See which lenders are charging fees 3 percent and for how much. Both banks and brokers have their strengths and weaknesses. A mortgage is the pledging of a property to a lender as a security for a mortgage loan for 7 percent. It is a transfer of an interest in land, from the owner to the mortgage lender, on the condition that this interest will be returned to the owner of the real estate when the terms of the mortgage have been satisfied or performed.

See mortgage loan for residential mortgage lending, and commercial mortgage for lending against commercial property. Some will quote you precise, competitive rates 11 percent. Start with credibility. It’s not easy to know if the prices quoted by lenders are reliable.

Although most mortgage experts say that rates 8 percent are pretty much the same wherever you go, give or take this tiny 6 percentage. Many of these fees are fixed but some can be negotiated.

Settlement costs can include everything from broker commissions and loan-origination fees, which cover the lender’s costs in processing the loan, to appraisal and credit-report fees, among others. So how do you find a lender or broker you can trust’ Depending on your situation, that may make a bank loan more appealing than a mortgage processed by a broker.

Arranging a mortgage is seen as the standard method by which individuals and businesses can purchase residential and commercial real estate without the need to pay the full value immediately. In other words, the mortgage is a security for the loan that the lender makes to the borrower. And of course, each loan and each borrower are different. Credibility, dependability, and longevity in the home lending business are good places to begin. While a mortgage in itself is not a debt, it is evidence of a debt of 6 percent.

Map Of Puerto Rico

Posted by admin on August 22, 2008 in Biz

Puerto Rico is an island between the Caribbean Sea and the North Atlantic Ocean, located east of the Dominican Republic. The island is almost rectangular in shape and is the smallest and most eastern island of the Greater Antilles. The island spans an area of 9,104 sq. km, slightly less than three times the size of Rhode Island. The island has a length of 180 km, stretching from Punta Puerca in the east to Punta Higuero in the west. The maximum width spans an area of 65 km from Isabella in the north to Punta Colon in the south. The length of the coastline is 501 km, which is the reason for Puerto Rico being a key -shipping lane to the Panama Canal. In addition to the principal island, the Commonwealth includes Vieques, Culebra, Culebrita, Palomino (also known as the Spanish Virgin Islands), Mona, Monito and various others isolated islands.

To the west of the island lie Haiti and the Dominican Republic, which are separated from the island by the Mona Passage or Mona Canal. To the east lie the Virgin Islands. The north is flanked by the Atlantic Ocean while the Caribbean Sea is to the south.

Puerto Rico has a predominantly mountainous terrain. The coastal plains are spread across the north of the island. Sandy beaches cover the coastal areas. Cerro de Punta is the highest point at a height of 1,338m. San Juan is one of the biggest natural harbors.

Puerto Rico’s numerous small rivers and high central mountains ensure that the land is well watered. The south coast is relatively dry and the north consists of a fertile coastal belt.

Puerto Rico is close to the deepest submarine depression in the North Atlantic Ocean. The Puerto Rico Trench is about 1,750 km long and 100 km wide. The trench was formed by a series of faults in the north Caribbean and is partially filled with sediments. The trench is parallel to the northern coast of the island of Puerto Rico, lying about 120 km to the north. The deepest point in the Atlantic Ocean, the Milwaukee Depth, lies within the Puerto Rico Trench, at a depth of 8,380 meters, 160 km northwest of Puerto Rico.

Defrazzle with Hug Therapy

Posted by admin on in Biz

“Hugging is healthy: it helps the body’s immunity system, it keeps you healthier, it cures depression, it reduces stress, it induces sleep, it’s invigorating, it’s rejuvenating, it has no unpleasant side effects, and hugging is nothing less than a miracle drug”

Unknown

Sometimes life gets so hectic that our nerves are frazzled, our tempers are short, and we feel totally disconnected from those that are important to us.

Want to know a simple way to fix that? Reach out and hug someone.

According to some research, we need about 7 hugs a day to be healthy. Most of us don’t get that in a month. Mark Katz, M.D., Member of L.A. Shanti’s Advisory Board says:

“How important are hugging and physical and emotional contact for people affected by life - threatening illnesses? In my work, I have found that people who receive nurturing maintain a better outlook on their situation — and historically, positive attitude is an important factor in long-term survival. Hugging and physical contact make a difference in a person’s frame of mind, and may help their medical condition. Best of all, hugging has no side effects and does not require a trip to the doctor.”

So, what happens if you’re not a hugging family? Start by simply touching your family - a pat on the back, a light touch on the arm. As you receive permission and encouragement, increase your touches to include a “side hug”. Just remember to always respect a person’s boundaries.

Here are some tips on how to hug depending on what you want to communicate by Kathleen Keating, R.A., M.N., author of The Hug Therapy Book:

* The Bear Hug–ideal for two individuals of disproportionate sizes and for saying, “You’re terrific,” or “You can count on me”.

* The A-Frame–Brief embrace ideal for little-known relatives and situations requiring a bit of formality. All of the hugging takes place above the neck. This hug communicates polite caring or detached warmth. Great for new huggers.

* The Cheek Hug–A tender hug that can be executed sitting or standing. This hug says “I’m sorry you’re disappointed,” or is ideal to share joy or greet an elderly relative.

* The Group Hug–Great for good friends sharing an activity or project. Group hugs communicate support, security, affection, unity and universal belonging.

If you really need a hug and don’t have the permission from your family members to hug them, go visit an old folk’s home and start hugging the residents. It will not only help you, but it might even increase and improve the lives of those you hug!

Remembering You

Posted by admin on August 21, 2008 in Biz

If something were to happen to you tomorrow,

what would people remember about you?

Would they remember the hours you worked?

Would they remember the material things you own?

Would they remember how much money you had in the bank?

Would they remember the number of vacations you took?

Would they remember the love you showed?

Would they remember your caring and your sharing?

Would they remember the help you gave them?

Would they remember your smile, your laugh?

What will they remember,

your actions today will determine

what they will remember.

The poem “Remembering You” is a gentle reminder to live each day and don’t neglect the important things in your life.

Our careers are important to us but a quote I heard years ago puts a careers in perspective, “Do you work to live, or live to work”. Our careers provide us with money to enjoy life, but they are not our life. And, material things are not the be all and end all. As my Mum used to say, keeping up with the Jones is not a good way to live! And money, yes we need it to survive, but money will not bring happiness. There are many people in this world that have more than enough money but they have little happiness.

Memories of happy times, of helping times, of laughter and love, these are the things people reflect on and remember. We sometimes get so busy we don’t make time for these things.

When reflecting on your life, the following quote is a good one to reflect on: “What I do today is important because I am exchanging a day of my life for it.”

This week how many times have you laughed, have you helped someone, and have you shown your love to those who are special to you?

Are You Asking The Right Questions?

Posted by admin on August 17, 2008 in Biz

Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you-Matthew 7:7

Do you sometimes get frustrated because you feel as if you don’t get the answers you desire? Well, maybe it’s the questions you’re asking. Asking the right questions has the power to elicit positive changes in your life. It’s not just in your tone, but your words also. If you want to influence someone, you must demonstrate to them that you are a confident communicator.

Which of the following questions is most likely to get a “yes” from you?

“You wouldn’t want help me, would you?” or “I need your help with something. What days will work for you?” The first question gives the other person the opportunity to dismiss you. The second question offers an option and requests a solution. If you ask a negative based question, you will get a negative response. If you a positive based question, more than likely you will get the response that you are looking for.

Make sure you are asking for what you want instead of what you don’t want. Often our words and actions betray our thoughts and intentions. You have to be open to receiving in order to get what you want. The one way to alter the results you get in your life is to alter the way communicate what you want. Ask people questions that will invite more information from them or pique their interest to seek more information from you. This applies to your life too! By asking yourself the right questions, you will change your focus and build your self awareness. If you’re asking yourself: “Why am I such a loser?” or “Why do bad things keep happening to me?” you are inviting more failure. You have to make the shift in your thinking. This often requires that you examine what you want to accomplish in life and then focusing on how to achieve it. Ask yourself: “What can I accomplish today that will have a positive impact on my life?” or “What’s possible in my life right now?

Before you ask a question of yourself or others think about the outcome you would like to receive as a result of the question. Ask solution based questions and you will get the results you want. Always be enthusiastic and excited about the response you will be getting. It takes time and practice to develop your ability to ask positive questions. As you develop this ability, you will be empowered to make better choices in your life.

Keeping Kids Safe on the Internet

Posted by admin on August 13, 2008 in Biz

The biggest trick some child predators’ are using these days is to pretend to be a kid, in a kid site chat room.

Child predators are talking the lingo, misspelling words, having simple conversations to gain trust with children on the internet.

But do you really know just how fast they can find information
about your child or your family?

This is one website every parent must see:

http://www.usdoj.gov/criminal/ceos/index.html

Scroll down to the bottom and you will see a section called

Interactive Tools

Then click on the link

‘What Can Be Revealed in Minutes About Your Child Online’

It is a downloadable tutorial that shows parents and kids
just how someone can search for information about you or your child, if they frequent chat rooms, or send out any type of posts on the internet.

It shows you how a stranger on the internet can find out
EVERYTHING about your child in about 45 minutes,
with even the smallest piece of information to start with.

Here is the direct url for the tutorial:

http://www.usdoj.gov/criminal/ceos/Multimedia/NCMEC%20Video%202.exe

So what will a child abductor do with this information?

Even if they do not know what your child looks like, they can wait for them to come home from school, call them by name, call them on the phone.

And if they walk home from school, they can come in contact with them en route back home.

Without a doubt, the most dangerous of all…
…you might not even know if your child is being stalked by a person like this.

Here are some tips to safeguard your child against these types of individuals:

1. Just like TV, video games, or watching movies,
you shouldn’t let your child have free reign of the computer any time they like.

Have a central family computer space (keep it out of their rooms if there is an internet hook-up) By making use of the computer as a family affair, parents can keep a close eye on
who they are interacting with.

2. Make sure you know who they are chatting with online and tell them exactly why you’re concerned. Just like you want to meet their friends, get to know who they are talking to online.

tip - Kids are smart these days. They know there are nasty people in our society. Be open with them about your concerns and tell them you love them and You don’t want anything happening to them. That way when you do get ‘nosey cozy’
every time they’re online, it’s not a shock to their system.

Tell your child under no circumstances should they give out their name, address, phone #, or where they go to school over the internet.

tip - It’s natural for a kid to want to talk about those things. That’s what makes up their day.
Help them fight the urge by working with your child on ’safe’ topics to chat about; movies,
music, current events, even what they are learning in school. But nothing personal.

4. Have them tell you if there are any conversations that make them feel uncomfortable and to
not believe anyone they chat with when they type in “Don’t Tell Your Mom or Dad…” That’s a big flag.
Have them tell you about it.

5. Chatting kids should know never to meet ANYONE off of the internet without checking
with their parents first, whether in a separate chat room or in person. They must have a parent along
and meet in a public place.

6. Tell your child they should NEVER send a picture to anyone, without your permission.

Talk with your child about setting rules for going online (time of day, length of time)
and what sites and chat rooms are OK to visit. And what would happen if they break those rules.

Working together, parents and kids can make the internet informative and fun, just don’t make it easy for a child predator to find them.
