Some Easy Tips to Decrease the Boot Time

Posted by admin on April 1, 2010 in House Of Websters, Media

Simple steps to speed up Boot Time

Specialist software like a registry cleaner is required so that some of the Windows tips could be followed. But some tips could be done with the help of tools provided by Windows.

Its better for the user to ensure that he/she can go back to the place from where the process begins. This is crucial to deal with the situation if anything goes wrong. Therefore, a System Restore Point is required to be set.

You can initiate the process with the easy stuff

If you do not require all the fonts installed by various programs used by you, then better get rid of the useless ones.

A free font manager can assist you in performing this task.

Several programs start up with a computer system when it starts.

Some of these programs fall into the category that includes welcoming your antivirus software, firewall, etc.

But other applications come under a yourself category. The reason for keeping them in the yourself category is that you want these applications always available ready for use instead of starting them.

Programs including iTunes, Skype, webcam software, some sort of an instant messenger service, the keylogger installed to keep an eye on the naughty activities of children, Adobe Acrobat readers update service.

You may prefer that these applications will always remain available for use.

Few of them could be seen next to your system clock, at the bottom of the screen. Other programs wil hide away and show only upon checking the Task Manager.

Here, the Windows Msconfig program will help you by helping you in checking and eliminating such programs. You will get to see the list of autoloading applications through Startup tab. In fact, the autoloading applications become active every time the computer boots up.

The major inconvenience associated with Msconfig is that not much information is revealed by it. Therefore, you should do thorough research yourself to find out whether your computer actually needs applications listed in it or they are merely nice to have applications.

Besides, computers come equipped with the Windows Registry.

Windows Registry is used by programs as a dumping ground and a storage space.

Windows Registry appears to store in everything.

Generally, it is where the last opened files on the menus are kept or stored. It saves your favorite programs startup position and size. As having excessive fonts retards the systems loading, similar is the effect of having excessive stuff in registry which is no longer in use and prevents you from having a fast Vista .

Although cleaning up the Windows registry is possible using built-in Regedit program (start just like in case of Msconfig), some risks are also associated with it. In case anything goes wrong, Windows working may get disrupted or it may even stop to work. So it is advisable to leave this job for the software.

Verizon Wireless’ Android Lineup Comparison

Posted by admin on March 16, 2010 in House Of Websters, Media, Multimedia Hub

Verizon Wireless customers and Android fans can look forward to the Nexus One coming to the Big Red this spring. The Nexus One Google phone will be joining an impress lineup of Android Verizon Wireless cell phones: Motorola Devour, HTC Eris, and Droid by Motorola. But don’t plan on camping out in front of Verizon Wireless storefronts, the Nexus One will be sold directly from the Google site. The current Android Verizon Wireless cell phones are all honorable devices, the lingering question is: which one should you buy?

The Motorola Devour is a starter slider Android cell phone, featuring a MotoBlur overlay, Android 1.6, and a 3- megapixel camera, and a slide-out QWERTY keyboard. The HTC Eris is a solid cell phone with a 5- megapixel camera, HTC Sense overlay, and currently running Android 1.6 but awaiting the 2.1 clair update. Both devices have 512MB flash memory, 3.5mm headset jack, GPS, 3G, Stereo Bluetooth, 32GB of expandable memory and a full HTML browser. The two Verizon Wireless cell phones don’t compare to the Droid by Motorola and the Nexus One however they are both quite impressive nonetheless.

The Nexus One is the only Android device with the 2.1 clair platform, while the Droid is still waiting for its update. The Google “super smartphone” has an impressive AMOLED 3.7-inch touchscreen, including 512MB flash/512MB RAM, and will accept up to a expandable to 32GB microSD card. The Droid by Motorola and Nexus One come preinstalled with Google Maps Navigation, Google Voice, and the remaining Google Services. The most blatant difference between the two cell phones is the Droid’s lack of a physical keyboard, making the Nexus slimmer and lighter than the Droid by Motorola. The Droid has a trackpad on the keyboard that many users find useless and difficult to use, while the Nexus One has the familiar trackball that many cell phone users are comfortable using. Both cell phones are multi-touch capable, but the Nexus is shipped with the application support. Another notable difference between the Droid by Motorola and the Nexus One is the processing speed. The Nexus One is shipped with the super fast 1GHz Qualcomm processor, while the Droid’s Arm® Cortex A8 processor 550mHz processor doesn’t offer quite that much power.

Bottom line, the Verizon Wireless Android cell phone lineup is already impressive, but the Nexus One and Droid by Motorola are high-end multitasking and powerful devices that the Devour and Eris can’t compare to. The Motorola Devour is a perfect starter Android cell phone, while the HTC Eris is a great smartphone for people who prefer a more stylish design. Form factor and speed is key. Decide based on features best fit your lifestyle.

Windows Registry for MS Windows 98

Posted by admin on January 25, 2010 in Media, Software Tips + More

The hierarchical database - Registry - for Windows stores settings and options for configuration on MS Windows operating systems.

The Windows Registry provides information about the settings for low-level operating system and applications running on the platforms. The kernel, user interface, device drivers, services, SAM and third party applications are some platforms which use the Window Registry.

Windows registry also offers a way to access counters to profile performance of the system.

The Windows Registry was first launched in the market with Windows 3.1 to store important configuration information for COM-based components.

But the use of Windows Registry extended with the launch of Windows NT and Windows 95. It included a large number of per-program INI files wherein configuration settings for Windows had been stored.

The Registry database includes two basic elements values and keys.

Inside keys, Registry Values are stored and they actually represent name/data pairs.

The Windows API functions, which query and maneuver registry values, obtain the names of values distinctly from the key path and/or from the handle that recognizes the parent key.

The terminology seems to be misleading because the values resemble to an associative array. This associative array uses standard terminology for referring the name part of the value as a key.

Window 3s 16-bit registry presents the terms, wherein keys included merely a value that is unnamed (which required to be a string), but they couldnt have arbitrary duo of name/data.

The Windows registry can be edited in a manual way in MS Windows by executing regedt32.exe or regedit.exe in the directory of Windows.

Although, neglectfully editing the registry can result in irreparable damage or you end up with a slow computer. Therefore, Microsoft and several industry experts, including the writers and editors of leading trade magazines, have highly recommended to perform backups of the registry prior to editing it.

A direct implementation of the current registry tool was seen in Windows 3.x, known as the “Registration Editor” or “Registration Info Editor”.

Typically, it was merely a database of applications that are used to edit OLE objects embedded in documents.

But the users need to be cautious as the two editors on the aforementioned platforms differ tremendously.

Microsoft Windows XP was the first system in which both the programs were integrated into one. This integrated program contained the interface of REGEDIT.EXE and the functionality of REGEDT32.EXE.

These editors do not show such differences on Windows XP and newer systems. For instance - REGEDIT.EXE is the more refined and sophisticated editor, while REGEDT32.EXE is only a stub that invokes REGEDIT.EXE.

The Registry Editor enables users to do the following functions easily:

Apart from Microsoft, Registry could also be edited in LINUX with the help of open source Offline NT Password & Registry Editor for files’ editing.

Kid-friendly Cruises

Posted by admin on January 5, 2010 in Media

Kids and vacation - trying to find the perfect option can be a
real challenge but with a kid-friendly cruise, it does not have
to be. If you were like most parents, you want to take your
family on a special vacation, some place different, fun, adventurous,
and affordable. For some reason, people forget about cruise
ships when in fact, this is by far one of the greatest choices you could
make.

Family cruise vacations are growing in popularity by leaps
and bounds.
Not only are cruises a great way to expose kids to different
cultures in
an affordable way, but cruises are also very safe. Because
of that, we
see the number of families taking to the seas growing. As a
matter of
fact, of all areas within the cruise industry, family cruises is
the
fastest growing.

Recent reports show that more than one million children
took a cruise
with the family in 2002, an increase of more than 50% from
just a few years
prior. Just 10 years ago, cruises were considered a luxury
vacation
taken only for a special occasion such as a honeymoon or
anniversary.
However, over the years, cruise lines have recognized the
value in
offering different options for the entire family. Because of
that, the
current offerings have been revamped. Today, we see new
destinations,
themes, and activities to better match the younger
passenger’s needs.

If you think about it, families run at 100 miles per hour in
today’s
society. Between work, soccer, baseball, dance, doctor’s
appointments, homework, and all that is involved in running
a family,
parents look for options that provide them with relaxation
while
giving the kids tons of fun things to do. With kid-friendly
cruises,
this is exactly what you get - a convenient, stress free, and
fun
environment for all ages.

Consider the value of a family cruise. No longer expensive,
you can
choose a number of options that fall within the budget. Keep
in mind that
the price paid includes all meals, entertainment, and
activities.
Then, with a kid-friendly cruise, special programs are
designed to
give mom and dad a much-needed break while the kids
enjoy spending time
with other kids their own age.

Additionally, cruise ships are very safe. Although some
parents still
have concern about taking kids on board a ship, you can be
assured that
the reputable cruise lines such as Disney, Carnival, and
others have
gone to great lengths to ensure every child is watched in a
safe,
controlled setting. If you have any concern over your child,
there are
many different cruises that provide beepers or two-way
walkie-talkies, allowing you to communicate with your kids
at any
time.

An experienced and professional staff is also essential,
especially
when talking about cruises for kids. After all, kids will be
kids at home
and on a cruise ship. Therefore, as you conduct your search
for the right
cruise, look for those that provide trained and experienced
staff with
backgrounds in recreation, education, and child
development. That
way, your mind is put at ease so you too can have an
exceptional time.
